The smackdown has begun...

It looks like I'm having a pretty heated debate with some eHarmony staffers on eHarmony Labs' blog. You might want to check it out.

The eHarmony folks want to spin everything to suit their agenda. There is some truth to what they say but they drink way too much of their own kool-aid. Good job for calling them on it.

Being completely new (2 months) to eHarmony, it seems clear that its "virtual world" doesn't resemble the real world much at all. They could admit this and embrace eHarmony for what it is - a high-tech way for the average person to meet somewhat compatible people that they wouldn't otherwise - which is something with wide appeal.

But instead, they beat the "find the love of your life" angle into the ground. It's a fantasy-land expectation with a much narrower audience, it creates unnecessary pressure, and it probably drives many customers away when they find out what "the world of eHarmony" is really like.
